From: Kevin and Family

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY 70th. BIRTHDAY UNCLE ROB! It seemed like just yesterday that you were complaining that there wasn't enough rum in the drinks that I was making for you, even as the worlds youngest bar tender (10 or so), I took this with a grain of salt, as everyone complained of the same thing. Good times! There are just far too many stories and memories from my childhood to write in a single letter, from the oranges rolling down the driveway, to the now infamous Virginia furniture con-job. Stories and memories that only attain their true potential when told in your presence. I wish that I (we) could be there to celebrate with you but I know that you are surrounded by family and friends and we will be thinking of you. TONS OF LOVE FROM ALL OF US (kevin, eve, ian and holly) TO YOU!! XXXXXXXX

From: Beverly and Clive

Dearest Robert,

It is difficult for me to “wrap my head around” the fact, that my baby brother is 70 years old!!! So....I have been thinking back to the “old” days…..to your youth.

Do you remember getting into the cupboard and “stealing” all the bullas that Mum had just made? They were still warm and you took them outside to the back yard and ate most of them before you were caught in the act?

Do you remember trying to flush my little kitten down the toilet?

Do you remember when you bet Egie that you could eat more than he could? So Charlie Doran took you both to Webster’s ice cram parlour and of course you won!

Do you remember how vexed you got when you saw Fanny wearing your cricket boots?

Do you remember the first two jobs you had before landing the big one at The Royal Bank? The first was as a salesman for lady’s bras and the second was to sell gentleman’s dress shirts. Neither of these two lasted any time, probably a day each!!

These are just a few things that come to mind. Most of all though, I want to say what a wonderful brother you are and how much you are loved.

So don’t worry about being a new member of the Septuagenarian Club. Remember what Mum would say to you… “just shake up yourself”

Clive joins me in saying how much we would love to be there with you as you celebrate this grand occasion. Instead, we shall raise many glasses, in your honour, as we wish you a very, very Happy Birthday with many more to come.

Lovingly,

Beverly

Uncle Robert!!! Happy 70th!!! I love you!! Wishing you all of God’s joyful blessings today and always…Jesus loves you…and I’m so glad He put you in my life! xoxoxoxoxox

Thirty years ago it was,
(could it really be that long?)
God led me to a family,
That gave my heart a song…
A song of joy and laughter,
Of memories so dear,
Of lifelong friends that are FAMILY…
A blessing very clear!
First there was my new found friend,
A red-haired twin of heart…
Then sleepovers, parties, enjoyable meals…
And Best Street – just blocks apart!
Raisins and peanuts,
Hanging out…
And all the great things
That life is about…
Lots of caring thoughts,
And hugs and smiles…
And wagging Shih Tzu tails…
All so worthwhile!
Aunt Janet and Dean and Debbie and YOU…
Are all special gifts
In my life – that’s true!
My heart still sings this special song….
For in it lies not one part wrong –
This song of happy times of past…
With more to come – our bond will last!
Your family and mine,
Became joined at the heart…
And our caring continues,
Even though we’re apart!
Uncle Robert know, that you are loved,
As you enjoy your birthday scene...
And remember that there’s a special hug,
From your other daughter…Kathleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Dear Dad,

Happy Happy Birthday!! I so wish that we could be there with you to celebrate this wonderful day! If you're 70, how old does that make me??? oh no!!! Let's not go there......I only hope that I will have your youthful looks, energy and sense of humour, something that Grams obviously passed down to you, Uncle Eugene and Auntie Bevs, when I get to this fantastic decade!

I Love you very much,

From: Andrew - your Son-in-Law

I so look forward to our rounds of golf when we come down to visit. Watching a "pro" in action and learning some new tricks. Dodging alligators and you laughing when I crank 3 iron slices off the rooftops of nearby houses. You have been and always will be my favourite father in law. :-)

Have a very very Happy 70th birthday Robert, see you on the links soon.

Hi Robert----Many felicitations for your 70th!

Debs suggested that we send some remembrances so----here some are:

Do you remember my first visit to Jamaica? I came down with Nicole. Janet and I and the kids went to Morgan's Harbor. (Have pix, so don't say it didn't happen!) Great rum punches!

We also went to Tower Isle where you tried to get Nicole to swim in the pool. I have pictures of that somewhere, too. Wish I could put my hands on them to send to you.

I also remember that we had a terrific rum punch party while I was in Kingston, with curried goat made by Aunt Ferris and rum punch that you (and a friend?) made (and sampled all day long [or was that in Mandeville]?) Also a reception at Halfway tree for something and out dancing at one of the hotels (I got paired up with a barrister/ solicitor? little short round guy.)

Also remember you picking me up at the airport as a surprize for Janet's 50th birthday party. The look on her face was worth the price of the ticket to Toronto.

I think that you are the greatest brother-in-law that I could ever have (have ever had) and I love you lots and lots. Wish so much that I could be there. Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

Lynda

Happy 70th Granddad!

Wow granddad, you are going to need our help blowing out all those candles! We think you're the best granddad ever and can't wait for you to teach us some of those great dance moves we keep hearing about from Jamaica days.

Heartiest congratulations from us both on your 70th Birthday. Sorry we won't be there to celebrate, but will definitely be seeing you in March on our way either to/from Ft. Lauderdale/St. Petersburg.

Hope to see Eugene and Alison also; maybe the 6 of us can go to lunch somewhere in Englewood.

Much love to Janet and we hope she is improving from all her medical problems.

P.S. I still remember all those parties when we boogied the night away. You were always one of my favourite dance partners.

Happy Birthday, Boy!

Hello Robert,

I don't understand why you still consider Chris your friend. I think your golf game demands more respect than he is prepared to admit. In any event, best wishes on your 70th and beyond.

Happy 70th Dicko

Sonja and I wish you a very happy birthday.

I am really concerned that you are not showing Alex how to grip the club properly. If you want some professional help let me know

Not sure if you saw this picture but it came from the RBC archives. I am sure you will recognize quite a few people. Click on the picture for a larger view
